I believe our public schools are worth fighting for.

Dear Neighbour,
My name is Maureen Larkin and I am running to be your Trustee for TDSB Ward 5.
With a child in a TDSB school, I have a vested interest in making our schools the best they can be. As the past Co-Chair of the Parent Council at Market Lane PS, I worked with parents, staff, and students to increase school safety and staffing.
I supported the expansion of our annual Fun Fair by developing partnerships with local businesses and community agencies. With their support, we were able to host a joyful, fun-filled event at no cost to students.
Our schools are grossly underfunded. Under the current government, there has been a $6 billion inflationary cut to annual funding. We should not have to depend on fundraising or corporate partnerships to fund essentials in schools.
I am running for Trustee because I want to mobilize parents, staff and community members to fight for fair funding so our children get the education they deserve.
I have a track record as a community organizer. Alongside MPP Chris Glover, I:
Fought the proposed Billy Bishop Airport expansion
Mobilized families concerned about its potential impact on local schools
Organized a Youth Council and empowered students to fight OSAP cuts
Helped vulnerable communities access food and other essentials
Last spring the Ford government threatened to end the position of elected Trustees, who have governed our schools since 1816. While the government stopped short of doing this, they cut the number of TDSB trustees down from 22 to 12, meaning each Trustee is now responsible for approximately 60 schools.
In spite of these changes, I am running to be your Trustee so together we can fight to protect our schools and improve our children’s education.
Our children and their schools are worth fighting for. Please help me to fight for our children and their education by electing me as your TDSB Trustee.
Sincerely,
Maureen Larkin
